Tap tuning tools and equipment
In our effort to expand the application of tap tuning, we have put together a line of tools and equipment to make the process simple and fun. And, to round out the experience, our new book The Art of Tap Tuning and its accompanying 50-minute DVD explain and let you hear the process from beginning to end.

The DVD that accompanies The Art of Tap Tuning features numerous acoustical tests, equipment usage and set up, and a tone bar carving demonstration. Now the techniques and processes can be seen and heard!
Notes:
1) StroboSoft™ has been updated to include unique tap tuning functions. Click here to view instructions for either of the two downloadable versions of Peterson's StroboSoft™.
2) The compressor (part #825) adds sustain to the signal to improve image display and stability on the tuner. We recommend the use of the Behringer CS100 compressor with any strobe tuner, digital or analog - this tool makes a major difference in signal sustain, and helps identify the tapped note.
3) Peterson's StroboSoft™ (part #815, #816, #817) is a software application that runs on the Mac or PC and provides realtime analysis of acoustical signals. In December, 2007, Peterson updated StroboSoft to include tap tuning functions that lock and display the tapped note. We've used this application with great success.
4) Peterson's Strobosoft Suite™ (Part #815) is a complete package including a phono-to-mini adapter plug for your computer, an instructional DVD on setting up intonation when building instruments, and a complete instructional manual on using Strobosoft™.
5) Basic system set up is: microphone into compressor, compressor into tuner (or computer). You will need the corresponding cables and adapter phono plugs according to your set up. (Part #815 - Strobosoft™ Suite comes with a phono-to-mini adapter plug to interface with your computer.)
6) A "cardiod" microphone is named for the shape of its sensitivity pattern as viewed from its side. The sensitivity pattern for these microphones is heart-shaped, thus the name "cardiod." Our #826 micriphone is made in Germany, and has a high sensitivy response with very low noise. We have modified our #826 microphone to make it a bit more directional for the purpose of tap tuning. It can also be used as an excellent mic for acoustic instruments. (As an alternative, we suggest the RadioShack® 33-3036. It is about $49 and available from any RadioShack store or over their website (www.radioshack.com)
