Robert Greer of Town Mountain Joins Up!

In our inadvertent success forming a North Carolina coalition of Straight Up Stringers, we are delighted to have won-over Robert Greer of Town Mountain.  Robert plays our heavy gauge guitar strings on stage and in the studio, including on the group’s recent, critically-acclaimed Southern Crescent, out on LoHi Records. Winner of the 2013 IBMA Momentum Award for Vocalist of the Year, Robert has undeniable on-stage swagger, backed up by his classic vocals and strong rhythm guitar.

As part of a new initiative by Straight Up Strings, when Robert’s name is mentioned on a string order at siminoff.net, 5% of the string sale will go to Our VOICE, the non-profit he designated as the recipient.

Joe Newberry Plays Straight Up Strings

Renowned songwriter, guitarist and clawhammer banjo player, Joe Newberry, has announced his endorsement of Straight Up Strings for banjo and guitar. A frequent guest on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion, he was recently featured on the Transatlantic Sessions tour in the United Kingdom with fiddler Aly Bain and Dobro master Jerry Douglas.
In addition to performing solo, Joe plays in a duo with mandolin icon Mike Compton, sits in the banjo chair with old-time music legends Mike Craver, Bill Hicks, and Jim Watson, and also performs with the dynamic fiddler and step-dancer April Verch. He will use Straight Up Strings on stage and in recording.

Welcoming Eli West

Here’s a big Straight Up Strings welcome to our newest artist endorser, Eli West. He’s riding high on the success of his The Both concept album, which features beautiful cross-genre collaborations while highlighting his skill for storytelling. Eli is well-known for his collaborations with fellow Straight Up Strings artists, Cahalen Morrison, and he is featured on Jayme Stone’s Lomax Project. Eli plays our guitar, mandolin and banjo strings, and we couldn’t be prouder to have him joining us!
